Types Of Anchor Points

There are certain occupations in which one need to work on extreme heights such as working at the construction site wherein there should be some protection that will prevent falling while working.

These workers should be given proper training while working on the heights and should be given some fall protection equipment called as the anchor points which helps to secure the harness while working on heights.

Types of Anchor points:

With the development in technology, there are many anchor points which are devised to provide fall protection. The various types of anchor points include:

- Anchor straps: These anchor strips can be used in the case when there is no support to fix the support hook. This strap can be fixed to the support like the beam and acts as an anchor point. This anchor point then can support around 5000 lbs. This anchor strap allows attaching the lanyard which will support the worker.

- Tie-back lanyards: It is the modification of the anchor strap as it includes the lanyard along with the strap thus does not need a separate lanyard to be attached.

- Beam Clamps and trolleys: This type of the anchor point can be used when there is a beam which can be used to provide the support. There are two types of platforms in which these anchor points are tightened to the wider part of the supporting beam.

If the work is to be done at a single place than beam clamp can be used and if the worker needs to move while doing the work then the beam trolley can be used which helps to travel.

- Mobile anchors with weights: Similar to the fall protection stanchions but these differ in the method as these do not penetrate into the roof membrane. As the name suggests, these are mobile and can be assembled and installed at the place where the anchor point is needed. Any employee using this type of anchor point should be trained properly for using such device.

- Door Bars: These door bars are adjustable metal bars which are supported on the nearest door or the window jamb where work is to be done. These are said to be the quickest, safest and easiest solution.

- Tripods: These can be used in cases where there is no vertical support available. The best example to describe the use of tripod is while working in the manhole. There will be no support available while entering into the manhole to attach the anchor point. Thus the tripod is installed such that the lanyard can be attached to the apex of the tripod which will then provide support.

- Roof carts: These are similar to roof stanchions which provide support to the worker. The roof cart is provided with the feet that dig into the roof or the metal deck to provide support. Proper training needs to be given to the worker who uses this type of anchor point. The roof cart can be used as an anchor point for a number of employees working at the same time.

- Parapet clamps: As the name suggests, these anchor points are the clamps that are supported on the parapets.

The anchor point helps to save the lives of many people while working at heights. Get in touch with Anchored today to get your employees trained for working at heights as well as of any work related to Anchor points such as design and installation, certification, work methods etc.
